In December, 2016 we moved from CA to Houston, TX, again to be near grandchildren. Instead of culture shock, I find living in Houston energetic and vibrant after living in a more rural area. In 2003 we moved to Chico, CA, where our daughter Andrea and family lived, now moved. Moving to a small town of 85,000 in CA had been culture shock after spending 32 years in Atlanta, a year forty-five minutes from London, two years in Lubbock, and two years in Reno.
John is retired and I am a sometimes activist.

When I see teenagers getting into trouble these days, I can't help but think back to Homecoming, 1962 and remember how close we came to getting the whole celebration canceled. I don't recall what prompted the nightly fights after float decorating but they became the focus rather than Homecoming. It was a battle between the girls versus the boys, of rotten eggs, tomatoes, etc. courtesy of Frank's Grocery. After the third night of it Mr. Fincke finally said, ENOUGH. End of that story! What we did, all in good fun, would probably be a trip to juvenile hall now or at least suspension. I have a great appreciation now of administrators with a sense of humor and understanding of teens.
