Herman Wagner Davis of Sachse, Texas, died February 17, 2013. He was 71 years old.

Herman was born June 4, 1941, in Mountainair, New Mexico, to William and Inez Davis.

Herman retired after 27 years at Sherwin Williams to pursue his lifelong dream of being a peace officer. For the next 12 years he served in the Dallas County Constable’s Office as a warrant officer and served in the Honor Guard. In 1989 he was awarded Deputy of the Year, Dallas County, Precinct 4.

Herman enjoyed hunting, watching westerns and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Melba Davis of Sachse; daughters, Marisa Helton of Sachse and Lindsay Slaughter and partner, Lindsey Cox of Garland; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy & Wayne Payne, and niece, Denise, all of Kountze, Texas; grandchildren, Dylan and Riley Helton, Luke and Brooklyn Oineon, and Jackson Lebo; special nieces and nephews, Erik and Tammy Oineon, Alyssa and Ethan. Herman is also survived by stepson, Frank Slaughter and wife, Ashley; and grandchildren, Jurnee, Cade, Dalton, Ella, Rhea, Sarah & Andrew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wesley Davis.
